ABOUT THE SHOW

What is Ninja + Kabuki Tokyo?

Ninja + Kabuki Tokyo is an approximately 80-minute live entertainment show in the heart of Shinjuku Kabukicho that fuses ninja and kabuki, with live wadaiko taiko drums, kabuki-style sword-fighting and hands-on ninja moments — right next to the Godzilla Head.

How long is the show?

Each performance lasts about 80 minutes.

Do I need to understand Japanese to enjoy it?

No. The show is largely non-verbal and English-speaking staff are on hand, so international guests can fully enjoy it without any Japanese.

What kind of performances are in the show?

Live taiko (wadaiko) drumming, kabuki-style sword-fighting (tate), Japanese dance (nihon-buyo) and participatory ninja segments, finishing with the boss ninja in kabuki kumadori makeup.

Can I take part in the show?

Yes. Guests can try sword-fighting moves led by the performers on stage, and there is a fire technique (Katon) demonstration at the bar counter.

Can I take a photo with the ninja performers?

Yes. There is a photo time with the striking kumadori-painted boss ninja after the finale.

Who directs the show?

The show is directed by Denjiro Tanaka VII, a seventh-generation kabuki hayashi musician, and is supervised by the Japan Ninja Council.

Is it suitable for all ages?

Yes, from young children to adults. Guests under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian or someone aged 16 or older.

What days is the show held?

The show runs on weekdays, Monday to Friday. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

What time do the shows start?

Where exactly is the venue?

It is about an 8-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station (East Exit), or about 5 minutes from Seibu-Shinjuku Station.

Is the venue near the Godzilla Head?

SHINJUKU & SIGHTSEEING

What is there to do near the venue in Kabukicho?

The venue is in the heart of Kabukicho, steps from the Godzilla Head, the tiny bars of Golden Gai, the yakitori alleys of Omoide Yokocho and Hanazono Shrine.

What can I do in Shinjuku before or after the show?

Pair the show with a stroll through Golden Gai, the free observation deck at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the gardens of Shinjuku Gyoen, or dinner in Omoide Yokocho — all a short walk away.

Is Kabukicho safe for tourists at night?

Kabukicho is a lively entertainment district and one of Tokyo most popular tourist areas. As anywhere, keep an eye on your belongings; the venue itself sits by the well-lit Godzilla Head landmark.

What is a good plan for a day in Shinjuku with the show?

A popular plan is Shinjuku Gyoen or the Metropolitan Government observation deck by day, the 80-minute show in the early evening, then Golden Gai or Omoide Yokocho at night — all within walking distance.

Are there good places to eat nearby?

Yes. Omoide Yokocho yakitori alleys and countless Kabukicho restaurants are minutes away, and there is a bar inside the venue.

Is there something to do in Shinjuku on a rainy day?

Yes — the 80-minute show is entirely indoors, and Shinjuku has plenty of indoor spots such as department stores, arcades and museums within a short covered walk.
